UNF Continuing Education Courses

 

Intermediate Drawing

FULL

Thursday from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

This class is for those who are familiar with contour lines, negative shapes and value. These subjects will be reviewed and improved upon to create a very well done drawing of a still life.

Class is held at UNF. For fees and exact dates and to enroll through the UNF Continuing Education Department

Beginning Watercolor

Tuesday from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

FULL

If you have never touched a paintbrush and feel a little anxious about trying, this is the class you want to dive right into. Watercolor is not hard. This class is designed as an introduction to will cover the basic techniques and color mixing.

Creating Moods in the Sky

$135/6 – week course

Tuesdays 2pm – 4pm beginning January 3@ Fleet Landing

Love the hues of a summer sky as the sun sets, or the bright crisp spring afternoon blue skies but always have trouble painting them? These skies can set the mood of a painting just as they set the mood of the day. We will take the time to concentrate on just painting the colors and clouds that create the moods of the sky.

We have taken a very popular workshop and created a full length class. This course is designed to cover the 31 chapters of ‘Making Color Sing’ – in monthly increments. Each month we will tackle a chapter or more and discover new challenges and techniques that Jeanne Dobie uses. If you want to truly expand your watercolor knowledge and skills, this is the class for you. This is NOT a class for beginners, some watercolor experience is necessary. You will not get a finished painting from this class, instead you will gain knowledge  new insights, skills and techniques that you will be able to apply to future classes and paintings.

Please purchase ‘Making Color Sing’ by Jeanne Dovie, AWS. Every chapter is valuable. If you do not already have the supplies she uses in her book, please purchase them*.

Watercolor on Canvas – $81/Month

After painting watercolor on canvas for 8 years I am tickled to see that this technique has become wildly popular. We will explore the techniques used to paint on canvas as opposed to watercolor paper and learn how to prep the canvas correctly for application of the watercolor. Canvas board as well as stretched canvas will be used ( you will need to purchase both) but, you can use the brushes and pigments that you are accustomed to using. Prepare to dive right in to a world of watercolor you will fall in love with.

Ocean, Beach and Palms

Take in the salt air, surf the waves and feel the soft sand between your toes and get the feeling of total relaxation every time you see your painting from this 8-week series. Everyone who paints loves to try a beach scene with breaking waves, blanket foam, soft sand and tropical palms. Lets make it easy! 

Trees

From prickly pines to majestic maples trees come in all shapes, colors and sizes. They sway with the wind and transform into beautiful color palettes with the changing seasons and time of day. During this 8-week series you will learn how to transform your watercolors into a  gorgeous colorful tree painting.

Water, Puddles and Their Reflections

After the afternoon showers that we enjoy here in Florida, many rain puddles are left behind. These puddles hold the reflections of the bright trees, flowers and clouds surrounding them. They are the temporary mirrors of mother nature, but how do you create a watercolor painting that can express this beauty? Once you’ve stopped splashing in the puddles, enroll in this 8-week watercolor class. You will discover the beautiful techniques to creating a watercolor of, well, water.

Wooden Barns, Countryside and Perspective

Rusty nails protrude from creaky hinges, years of layered paint peels slowly away from wooden walls and the sun shines brightly through the boarded up roof of a forgotten barn dotting the countryside. How can you capture each small detail? How do you portray the life that this old barn brings to an otherwise blank field? This watercolor class will teach you the techniques used to capture the wooden character of old barns and mix in a little bit of perspective, because after all, it is almost impossible to create any building without knowing the basics of perspective and vanishing points.

Workshops

Want to get more out of your art skills? Too busy to take a class during the week? These 3-day classes are offered on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday and have a special topic each month.

Bring your own supplies, there will be a supply list provided or a $40 supply fee is available for those who would prefer to rent supplies.

Know your Palette – $175

Feb 17, 18 and 19

Have you stood in the paint aisle completely lost because you cant decide between the hundreds of tubes staring back at you?  Step away from the paint. This is the workshop you have been waiting for! There is no need to buy every tube of paint in the store. You will learn how to create more than 122 hues of color out of just 6 hues!  Always fun and very informative. Bring the supplies you already are using as well as 3 full sheets of the watercolor paper you feel comfortable using.
